About Us
Who We Are
We are a family: We are singles, couples and families, young and old, who love one another as a family.
We are people of prayer: We believe in the power of prayer to change circumstances and a person's heart.
We are a caring community: We reach out to help those in need within our community and around the world.
We are followers of Jesus: Through our worship, Sunday School, and mid-week prayer hour, we study the Bible to grow in grace, knowledge, and obedience to God.
We are evangelical: We believe the answers to humankind's greatest problems are found through faith in Jesus; and that the Bible is as relevant today as when it was written.

Our History
St. John's began in 1918 as the vision of three men in the community who sensed the call of God for an evangelical church in their neighborhood. They initiated the Lehigh Park Sunday School which met in the Bast School House on Hanover Avenue.

With the help of other evangelical churches, St. John's purchased land at the church's present location in the Lehigh Park section of Allentown. The white-sided section of the present facility was completed in 1920. The present sanctuary (brick) and expanded lower level were completed and dedicated in 1954.

The church, however, is the people not the building. Since 1918 many people have committed themselves to the various ministries supported by the church and literally hundreds of men, women, boys, and girls have come to know Jesus as their Savior as a result.

It is our prayer that St. John's be known as a place where people accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior, and where they grow in their knowledge of and obedience to God's Word. To God be the glory!

Who Cares About You? We Do!
Many people today, maybe like yourself, feel the intense pain life can cast our way-loneliness, stress, abuse, broken relationships, job loss or concern for your children in a society that teaches all the wrong things. In addition, you may sense a certain distance from God.

Who can help? At St. John's we believe Jesus can. Will Jesus simply change everything for you? Maybe not. In fact, he never promises that. But he does promise strength and fulfillment if we make him the center of our life.

And, he even promises more-he promises eternal life. Death is certainly life's ultimate challenge and Jesus is our only hope. The only way to conquer death and find help in today's world is to accept Jesus as your Savior by faith.

We often think good works will get us to heaven and that we are all alone in facing what life throws our way. Neither is true. Eternal life comes only through faith in Jesus and you are never alone in facing life's problems with Jesus.

If you would like to know more about faith in Jesus or about how St. John's can help, please contact the pastor.
